Kobo Touch - #RandomBuy

With the integration of a digital market in Facebook it has rapidly become one of the easiest if not the go to places for buyers and local sellers in the Philippines. You can find anything here really. From a broad selection of jewelry to apparels for all ages up to electronic tools or mechanical parts you can build a bicycle or even a house. There are also art pieces and as well are rare finds. Some merchandise(s) are new and some are broken items. Since Facebook messenger is fully integrated it's always very easy to haggle. Well if you have the skills but I digress.

Here is a short review of the Kobo Touch. This is the first generation model of the electronic ink ebook reader from Rakuten Kobo. Fun fact the name "Kobo" is a play on word "book" hence the name. This ebook reader was introduced June 2011. At the time of the introduction it offers an improve 6" touch sensitive E-ink Pearl screen, 2GB internal storage (capable of storing a 1000 books), MicroSD slot for additional storage, 170 PPI (800x600 resolution), a faster processor (800MHz Freescale i.MX507) and Wifi.

Globe Telecom's Free Apps

Globe is now offering their subscribers free mobile applications that can be downloaded in their website www.globe.com.ph/downloads.

I have listed some free apps that I've tried:

REI intercepts all incoming and outgoing SMS to filter against configured keywords and phone numbers. If SMS matches a keyword or a pre-configured phone number the SMS will be placed in REI's inbox and sent folders respectively. These SMS can only be read after providing the correct PIN code. This allows you to keep confidential messages secure from unauthorized access.

Do online window shopping the fast and easy way through your mobile phone with moBilMoko. Once you are able to download the application in your mobile you can view popular items listed on eBay Philippines. A quick search function enables you to search specific items in the list and view their details. Interested in something but can't remember the details? You can request the details of the product to your mobile phone through the SMS feature in the app. A one-stop mobile window shopping app.

FN Suite is a downloadable mobile application that allows you to remotely control your phone whenever it is away from you.

You can use this little application to show a cracked screen image on your cell phone. It looks really realistic especially when the display backlight is turned off.
Imagine a friend's face when he sees your cracked screen or better yet after you install this application on HIS phone. He will pick up his phone and see the cracked screen. For a few seconds his heart rate will go up two times :).

If you want to see more free downloadable mobile application, just go to www.globe.com.ph/downloads.

Globe Bridges Geographical Boundaries and Unites the Filipino Youth with Project Headshot Clinic

This is a Press Release from Globe.

In line with Globe’s belief that the Internet is a powerful and effective medium to promote the Filipino youth’s proactive involvement in campaigning for change, Globe bridges distances to empower the youth from all over the country as the company’s online marketing team takes One Youth - Project Headshot Clinic to the provinces.

The highly successful campaign is a series of photo shoots that produce glammed-up pictures for use in social networking sites. When Project Headshot Clinic started, it catered to the high-end clientele who wanted profile headshots taken by renowned fashion photographer Niccolo Cosme for use in social networking sites such as Friendster, Facebook and Multiply.

This changed when Cosme realized that through one profile background, different people in various social spheres can convey one message. He realized that the youth can make a statement through their pictures, profiles, and avatars in various online social media. Project Headshot Clinic became the perfect venue for the youth to express their national pride, creativity, and individuality – an advocacy it shares with Globe Telecom.

With Globe’s One Youth - Project Headshot Clinic, the youth can have their photos taken by one of the country’s best fashion photographers. They can post it on their websites as profile pictures, and with this, they can communicate the change that they stand for so that every time their friends see them on Friendster, Facebook, Blogspot or other sites, they are reminded of their desire for change.

A thousand individuals have already joined this cause in Metro Manila alone. Eight Headshot Clinics were done in Makati, Taguig, and Quezon City, with the biggest Headshot Clinic done in the country’s number one dance club, Embassy.

The Headshot Clinics in Manila were done in partnership with one call center, VXI Global Solutions, student organizations like the University of the Philippines Junior Marketing Association (UP JMA), De La Salle University Junior Entrepreneurs Marketing Association (DLSU JEMA) and the Ateneo de Manila University Sanggunian, and Embassy Club.

These Headshot Clinics were attended by students from different colleges and universities such as UP, DLSU, ADMU, DLS-College of Saint Benilde, University of Santo Tomas (UST), Far Eastern University (FEU), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), Miriam College, Assumption College, and others.

This time, Globe focuses the spotlight on the youth from Cebu, Baguio and Davao. Globe gives the youth from the provinces a chance to broadcast their statements, to be seen by the entire country, even the entire world through their personal websites. Through Headshot Clinic, the youth from the provinces will be given their chance to shine and inspire other people.

Globe’s One Youth - Project Headshot Clinic will be held on June 27 in Davao, July 4 in Cebu, July 11 in Baguio and back to Manila on July 18. Shoots will also be held in Cebu and in Manila in July with final dates to be updated on the One Youth website.

Globe wants to encourage the Filipino youth to be proactive in campaigning for change, no matter where they are in the Philippines, in the most effective, efficient and extensive way. Through One Youth - Project Headshot Clinic, the Filipino youth can send the message of unity and call for change, one headshot at a time.

For more information about the project and how to have your own Headshot, please visit oneyouth.globe.com.ph.

Globe Offers Innovative Solutions to enable Filipinos to discover more and be more.

This is a Press Release from Globe.

Globe gives its subscribers the power to live a full Internet-enabled lifestyle as it provides them a suite of solutions that complements different types of lifestyles.

Globe has been expanding its wireless broadband network to accommodate the increasing demand for the Internet. This year, Globe introduced Globe Broadband Tattoo and Globe Broadband Powered by WiMAX (Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access). In June, the company is launching hyper-speed plans via cutting-edge fiber-to-the-home technology.

TATTOO
For the energetic, young at heart customers who need to stay connected as they go through their busy day, Globe Broadband Tattoo is the solution. Globe has recently introduced three new USB modem designs to choose from, allowing customers to connect anywhere, with a stylish USB that reflects their hip and trendy lifestyle.

With Globe Broadband Tattoo, users can experience speeds of up to 2 Mbps, delivered via 3G and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), making activities like social networking, chatting, blogging, emailing, casual gaming, streaming music and movies much more enjoyable yet still affordable.

The Globe Broadband Tattoo Prepaid Kit comes with an initial five hours of free Internet time (prepaid load of PHP 100). Additional time is very affordable at only P5 per fifteen minutes on the Internet. Now subscribers can be online anytime, anywhere with Globe Broadband Tattoo.

WIMAX
For progressive family builders, who want to provide their family members – their children, spouse and themselves – all the opportunities that life and the internet has to offer, yet who could not because they live in areas that previously had few or no options for internet access, Globe has rolled out Globe Broadband Powered by WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access).

The WIMAX-based plans provide good value for money with unlimited internet access ideal for households with frequent daily usage. With a speed of up to 512kbps for only PHP795 per month, the entry plan is 33% faster and 25% more affordable than any other entry-level postpaid plans in the market. Because Globe is very confident in the connection quality it provides, the package comes with an aggressive money-back guarantee, allowing any subscriber to terminate their account with no termination fees, should they be unhappy with the connection.

WiMAX is a technology designed to enable the deployment of wireless broadband access as a cost-efficient alternative to cable and DSL. WIMAX also has improved reach and can cover distances greater than those covered by other wireless technologies like WiFi, CDMA, or 3G. Globe’s network is considered the first and biggest 2.5Ghz WiMAX (802.16e) broadband network in South East Asia.

Globe is first in the Philippines to commercially launch a consumer Wimax offering. Currently, Globe has around four thousand subscribers on its WiMAX network, after only a few weeks.

The service is initially available in selected areas in South Luzon, NCR, Visayas, and Mindanao. Globe continues to roll-out WiMAX sites, as a complement to its existing DSL and 3G internet facilities, to ensure the internet gets to every Filipino who needs it.

As part of its commitment to the local communities, Globe is providing WiMAX to selected local community government offices in Cavite, Batangas and CDO, providing the local governments a means to be more accessible to their constituents and vice versa. It is Globe’s hope that local communities serve their constituents more efficiently by being more accessible via the internet. Globe is also providing internet access via Wimax to selected schools and city hospitals in Mindanao as part of its thrust of community service to the marginalized areas.

AFFORDABLE GLOBE BROADBAND + PC BUNDLE
In support of the company’s vision to provide Internet access to every Filipino home, Globe is also offering PC bundling packages with down payments as low as P999 starting June 12 in selected areas in South Luzon. The PC and Internet bundle comes in three plans: the Student Plan, the Busy Bee plan, and the Techie plan.

The Student plan is ideal for households with school-aged children who need a PC and an internet connection for research and other basic internet use such as social networking, surfing, email, chat and even casual games. The users make a small down payment of only PHP999, and a low monthly fee of only P1,472 per month for a bundled WIMAX connection and PC.

The Busy Bee plan is ideal for busy folks who regularly use the internet, and who need to take their work with them. Users pay a small down payment of PHP999, then pay a small monthly fee of P1,751 for a WiMAX connection and a net book. The busy bee has the option to buy a prepaid Globe Broadband Tattoo separately for only P1,895 for a truly mobile working experience.

The Techie plan is ideal for users who require a more powerful device to go with their high-speed internet connection. For a down payment of only PHP1,499 and a monthly fee of only P2,029, users get a WiMAX connection and a Neo laptop.

HYPER-SPEED GLOBE BROADBAND
In June, Globe launches its newest and fastest plans that are ideal for people who run multiple internet applications at the same time, and who want the fastest available connection. Globe delivers this via fiber to the home. With speeds of up to 100 Mbps, this is the fastest Internet connection in the Philippines.

The entry plan is a hyper speed of 10Mbps, which comes at a very affordable monthly fee of only P3,995/mo. This already comes with a landline as well as a WiFi router, which allows a user to easily and wirelessly share his fast connection with others at home.

This hyper-speed plan will be available in Forbes Park starting June 15; by July it will be available in Makati Villages Bel-Air and Urdaneta, and in Serendra, Taguig.

With these offerings, Globe creates an array of tools that meet every connectivity need of its subscribers. With these offerings, Globe fulfills its promise to provide relevant and easy-to-use services that enrich the lives of Filipinos.

The GSM Pen

I wish I had this pen when I was still studying and having a hard time answering my exams. This is called The GSM Pen. This device was created to help students in their school work specially in their examinations. It will help you get all the answers you need with the help of your trusted friend. This pen allows you to cheat without being caught. :D

By the way, I don't condone cheating. ;)

More pictures after the jump

All you have to do is to connect pen to your sell phone and make or receive calls like you do regularly. The pen functions due to Bluetooth technology. The gsm pen connects to the phone as a regular Bluetooth headset. The spy earpiece receives the signal from the phone through the gsm pen.

What you need to do is to arrange with your partner outside the area who will be giving you all the necessary information using any phone (cell, home or public phone). Put the spy earpiece into you ear and just before you enter the room make a call to your partner. The microphone located on the gsm pen is very sensitive. It lets your partner hear everything you say, even whisper. The answer can be clearly heard by you but nobody else. After you are done you can easily take the earpiece out from your ear with the help of ejection cord. The set is absolutely safe to use!

So if you plan to use it for your exams make sure that your phone supports Bluetooth.

Though the Gsm pen is high technological device, it is very simple to use. The set includes:

— The Gsm pen with the embedded microphone on top of it
— The wireless gsm earpiece (0.22×0.22×0.4 inch / 5.5×5.5×10.5 mm)
— The USB cable to charge the battery inside the pen
— Three batteries for the earpiece

Medical Help for Senior Citizens

Do you live with your grandparents or do you know some senior citizen who prefer to live alone? I guess we all worry on the health of our relatives especially with the ones who've reached then end of the bingo numbers. Old age usually comes with weakness and sickness. You can't deny the fact that our grandparents shouldn't be left alone by themselves.

Unfortunately, they are all too stubborn to have a care giver or a personal nurse / assistant. They still want to do everything by themselves as if they we're in their prime years.

People who encounter these problems might want to check out Medical Alert. With this, we can now stop worrying about our grandparents or older relatives whenever they wanted to be alone or while everyone is out. We can be assured that paramedics will be there with just a push of a button if something bad happens. An alert also will be activated if the owner of the device suddenly falls from high places or if he / she has not taken her regular dose of medicine.

All of this is possible with the Medical Alert with GPS capability. This is surely a must have for everyone with a stubborn senior citizen at home. After all, we may need this in the future as we are bound to get old as well.

Fingerprint Lock Security

Are you having a hard time opening your house door because you always misplace, lose or forget your keys? We can always blame our busy lifestyle or simply because of old age on this matter. I remember my 78 year old grandma who keeps on forgetting where she placed her things and one of those is her house key. She kept on insisting that she placed the key in her purse but when in fact she either gave it to me or my mom.

I am thinking of ways on how to avoid these kind of situations. I already thought of getting her a necklace with a pendant that can also serve as her keychain. She didn't like the idea though as she's uncomfortable with it. Good thing I came across a website called axxisbiometrics.com that specializes in fingerprint lock security

One of the their products is a fingerprint lock. No need to worry about keys! It uses fingerprint identification as the primary locking mechanism so no more keys or lock code combination to memorize. All you need is one of your fingers! I bet no one would steal or chop your finger just to open your door. You can also grant access to other people or visitors for a specific time only.

This latest technology is very ideal for those who are busy and getting very forgetful just like my grandma.

Swap Mobile Phone Watch

Remember my post regarding Photo frame watch? I bet somebody drooled over that, including me. Well, I recently found out that there is something more high-tech than that. Introducing the Swap Watch. It is not just a watch but you can use it as your mobile phone with blue tooth just by inserting a sim on it. It also has a built in camera, and an upgradable memory card.

Cool gadget!

The tables have now been turned. The sWap Watch doesn't just double as a mobile phone - it's like having a multimedia centre strapped to your wrist, and all without the crushing shoulder strain.

Want to check your emails? Surf the internet? Listen to music? Take Pictures? Watch a movie? MAKE a movie? It does ALL of these. It's in danger of completely eradicating boredom, revolutionising every minute of your day into a potential fun zone. The next time you're stuck on the train you'll just need to check out the 1.5 inch screen on your wrist for an instant fix of entertainment that'll turn your commute into a pleasure cruise rather than a chore. The memory card slot allows you to insert a Micro SD card to upgrade the already impressive 512MB memory to a whopping 2GB. With all that memory you'll have no problem storing all the MP3s and movies you'd need for a short jaunt.

If you really get bored (and with this watch, it's hard to see how you could) you could even check the time (from one of the many different watch faces stored in it's memory) or make a phone call. The watch will accept most SIM cards, so upgrading is hassle free and making calls couldn't be simpler - just plug in the hands free kit and you're good to go. If you really want to go one step beyond and banish those pesky wires along with your mobile phone then you'll be ecstatic to hear that the watch is Bluetooth compatible. You won't even have to fork out for the headset as it's included in the package.

This may just be the last gadget you ever need to buy. The future has arrived and it's a wristwatch.

Features

My first Sony experience is with my Sony TV

As far as I can remember, we had our first colored SONY TV and betamax during the 80's. My grandfather who was then working abroad bought it for us. I remembered watching Batibot and Sesame Street on our Sony TV. Watching them is where I started to appreciate lessons in school.

By watching Batibot and Sesame Street, I had fun ways of learning things. Those two shows had a great impact on my childhood. It taught kids like me on how to read, and even solve simple mathematical problems. It also taught us on how to respect our elders.

Our family's bonding time was in front of this TV during weekends. We used to watch TV shows together especially during Sundays.

As time past by, Sony became a part of our life. We had our betamax player, our walkmans, and transistor radios. My first video game console happens to be from Sony too. I doubt you don't know the PlayStation 1. Guess where I played the PS1? Where else, on our new Sony TV.

Sony TV definitely gave significance in my life just like the World’s First Motionflow 240Hz LCD TV: Bravia Z450, it enables the display of fast-moving images with total precision and smoothness by increasing the image stability by quadrupling the number of frames rate per second by interpolating three new frames to reduce motion blur... perfect for video gaming with my PlayStation 2

Downloadable free games

My cousin recently bought a new computer for her school and leisure activities. The computer came packaged with discounted games but the problem is, she didn't like some of it. She wanted to return the games and exchange for new ones but the store only allows exchanging of unopened packages.

She wanted to buy more games but I told her to research on Google before deciding to buy another one. Reading game reviews helps one decide on which games to buy. GameOPS is a nice place to start looking for game related news.

I found a website that allows anyone to download computer games for free. Yes FREE. You can test the games first before buying. Test all you want and if you don't like the game, you're not forced to buy it.If you really want it then buy it.

I told my cousin to visit www.phelios.com to checkout computer games first before deciding to buy. You can even download mac games in Phelios such as mac solitaire and other Hidden object games for mac.

Phelios is a great website to look for games. It allows anyone to test the game before buying them. Buy only the games you like :)

This is scary!

No definite pathway. No clear answers. It feels like every option leads to another question. But I'm choosing to believe that uncertaint...
